In Picture: IOT Delegates Visit Preah Vihear Temple Following Thai Airstrike

For the first time, the Interim Observer Team (IOT), led by Colonel Nazlee Bin Abdul Rahim, Malaysia’s Defence Attaché to Cambodia, today visited the Preah Vihear Temple and surrounding areas to observe, verify, and report on the situation following the recent ceasefire agreement.

The delegation, comprising representatives from Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Laos, was facilitated by the Ministry of National Defence. The mission was coordinated in cooperation with Lieutenant General Phat Vibolsopheak, Deputy Director General of the General Department of Policy and Foreign Affairs and Director of the International Cooperation Department.

The Preah Vihear Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, sustained partial damage during the five-day Thai incursion, prompting Cambodia to lodge a formal complaint with UNESCO.

The 11th-century temple, perched on the cliffs of the Dangrek Mountains in Choam Ksan district, Preah Vihear province, was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List on July 7, 2008. It is currently managed by the Preah Vihear National Authority.

The Ministry of National Defence of the Kingdom of Cambodia has facilitated the Interim Observer Team (IOT) comprising representatives from 5 countries, led by Colonel NAZLEE BIN ABDUL RAHIM, Malaysian Defence Attaché to Cambodia, to visit the surrounding area around Preah Vihear Temple in order to Observe, Verify and Report on the update situation after the Ceasefire Agreement.
