Defence Ministry spokeswoman Lieutenant General Maly Socheata said that the Cambodian government has faithfully implemented the ceasefire that came into effect at 12:00 PM on July 28, 2025, achieving results step by step.

In a press briefing on August 2, Lt Gen Socheata noted that on July 31, 2025, Cambodia took further steps to implement the ceasefire. Specifically, the ASEAN Interim Observation Group conducted inspections in areas affected by the recent armed conflict between the Cambodian and Thai armies. The group comprises representatives from three countries: the Malaysian Military Attaché (serving as Chairman), the Vietnamese Military Attaché Assistant, and the Philippine Military Attaché Assistant.

Lt Gen Socheata made these remarks during a briefing on the progress of the ceasefire implementation between Cambodia and Thailand, held at the Council of Ministers on the morning of August 2, 2025.

She added that during the ASEAN Observer Group’s meeting with Lieutenant General Pov Heng, Commander of Military Region 4, the group viewed a presentation on the post-ceasefire situation in the affected areas. This included an update on the July 29, 2025, meeting between Cambodia’s Military Region 4 and Thailand’s Military Region 2.

On August 1, 2025, the Cambodian government decided to establish a coordination working group to collaborate with the observers in monitoring the implementation of the ceasefire—an initiative that clearly reflects Cambodia’s commitment to fulfilling its responsibilities.

She explained that the coordination working group, led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Tea Seiha, is tasked with facilitating and supporting the work of the observer group, chaired by Malaysia, to verify and ensure compliance with the ceasefire. Meanwhile, Cambodia continues to urge the Thai side to return the remaining captured Cambodian soldiers currently in Thai military custody.
