Opinion: Cambodia Upholds Peace as Thailand Undermines the Ceasefire
Khmer Times | In the wake of the recent ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand, the Kingdom of Cambodia has acted with unwavering commitment to peace and stability. While our soldiers remain disciplined and our government fully respects the terms of the ceasefire, Thailand continues to jeopardize regional security through both military provocations and a campaign of disinformation.
Cambodia has no interest in prolonging this conflict. We gain nothing from violating the ceasefire—our sole objective is to protect our people and safeguard regional peace. Since the ceasefire’s announcement, Cambodia has engaged tirelessly with the ASEAN Chair, the United Nations Security Council, and key international partners, including President Donald J. Trump, whose mediation has been crucial in bringing the parties to the table. Our actions have been guided by transparency, restraint, and respect for international law.
Thailand, however, has chosen a different path. Through manufactured incidents and a flood of misleading narratives, Bangkok seeks to cast blame on Cambodia for its own acts of aggression. On the ground, Thai forces have repeatedly tested the limits of the ceasefire, while their state-aligned media spreads false allegations of Cambodian violations to mislead the world. This manipulation of facts is not only reckless—it threatens to derail a fragile peace and destabilize the region.
Cambodia appeals to the international community to see through these deliberate provocations. Silence in the face of Thailand’s actions will only embolden further violations. Peace will hold only if the aggressor is called out and the truth is recognized: Cambodia has honored the ceasefire; Thailand has undermined it.
Our nation will continue to exercise maximum restraint, but peace is a shared responsibility. Cambodia calls on Thailand to abandon its dangerous tactics and join us on the path of genuine reconciliation. The world must not allow disinformation to obscure reality: the true threat to peace comes from those who provoke, not from those who seek harmony.
