Cambodia and Saudi Arabia Continue to Strengthen and Expand Bilateral Relations and Cooperation
On the morning of 2 July 2025, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUN Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, held a meeting with His Excellency Dr Abdullah Mohammed Ibrahim Al-Sheikh, the Speaker of the Shura Council of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, at the Peace Palace.
During the meeting, His Excellency the Speaker expressed his pleasure at meeting Samdech Borvor Thipadei and conveyed his sincere gratitude to the Royal Government of Cambodia for the warm and friendly hospitality extended to him and his delegation during their first official visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia. He briefed Samdech Borvor Thipadei on the fruitful outcomes of the visit, the primary objective of which was to further strengthen and enhance cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries. His Excellency the Speaker also noted that the Shura Council had extended an official invitation to the President of the National Assembly of Cambodia to pay an official visit to Saudi Arabia, representing a special invitation from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Kingdom of Cambodia. Emphasising the potential and rapid development of Saudi Arabia, he acknowledged Cambodia’s potential and its long-term vision for inclusive and sustainable growth, particularly the realisation of the Cambodian Vision 2050.
In response, Samdech Borvor Thipadei warmly welcomed His Excellency the Speaker and his delegation during their first official visit to Cambodia. He noted that high-level exchanges between leaders reflect the positive progress in bilateral relations and significantly contribute to the strengthening and expansion of cooperation between the two countries. Samdech Borvor Thipadei also expressed gratitude to the Royal Government of Saudi Arabia for its support of Cambodia’s Islamic community, particularly through the provision of scholarships for Khmer Muslim students to study in Saudi Arabia.
Samdech Borvor Thipadei expressed his satisfaction with the strong relations between Cambodia and Saudi Arabia, particularly the robust ties between the legislative bodies of the two nations. He reaffirmed that the Royal Government of Cambodia, under the Seventh Legislature of the National Assembly, has introduced a policy aimed at deepening relations with Middle Eastern countries, including Saudi Arabia. To expand trade between the two countries, relevant ministries and institutions in Cambodia have been actively engaging with their counterparts in Saudi Arabia to enhance connectivity between the private sectors of both nations. Samdech Borvor Thipadei also recalled the ASEAN-GCC (Association of Southeast Asian Nations – Gulf Cooperation Council) Summit held in May 2025 in Malaysia, which provided a significant opportunity to strengthen trade relations between the two blocs—ASEAN and the Middle East.
Samdech Borvor Thipadei and His Excellency the Speaker also exchanged views on ways to deepen cooperation in key areas such as trade, agriculture, culture, tourism, and aviation. Both parties agreed to encourage their respective ministries and institutions to continue working closely and actively to enhance and expand bilateral cooperation.
