CCCC Optimistic About Funan Techo Canal Construction
On the morning of 18 April 2025, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, received Mr. Wang Tongzhou, Chairman of China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), in a courtesy call at the Peace Palace.
During the meeting, the Chairman expressed strong appreciation for the Cambodian government’s high priority on physical infrastructure development and thanked the government for ensuring a favorable investment environment. Mr. Wang briefed the Samdech Borvor Thipadei on CCCC’s business operations. CCCC is a leading Chinese engineering company specializing in transportation infrastructure, canal dredging, and large-scale irrigation systems, with operations in 158 countries worldwide. He added that the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), a subsidiary of CCCC, is responsible for the construction of the Funan Techo Canal. Mr. Wang also respectfully updated the Prime Minister on the progress of the Funan Techo Canal project, which has reached the stage of signing key agreements following the state visit of H.E. Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China. He firmly expressed his belief that President Xi’s visit will further strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation between the two nations. Mr. Wang also conveyed deep gratitude to both the Cambodian and Chinese governments for their full support of the project. He emphasised his optimism and affirmed the company’s strong commitment to successfully completing the project as planned, ensuring high quality, and establishing it as a model project.
In response, Samdech Borvor Thipadei praised the company’s progress and expressed appreciation for CRBC’s crucial role in developing key infrastructure in Cambodia, particularly the Funan Techo Canal. He highlighted the Cambodian government’s priority and the significance of the canal as a historic national project. The canal will unlock potential for waterway connectivity from rivers to the sea and expand investment opportunities in the industrial, agricultural, logistics, and real estate sectors, thereby boosting national economic growth.
Before concluding, Samdech Borvor Thipadei congratulated the parties on reaching agreement on key documents related to the implementation of the Funan Techo Canal project and expressed confidence that the construction will be successfully completed as planned.
