ជម្រាបសួរ!
Warm greeting from the Kingdom of Cambodia!
First and foremost, I would like to express my sincere thanks and gratitude to His Excellency the Chair and to the esteemed members of the 19th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. It is with immense pride and gratitude that I stand before you here today on behalf of the Cambodian people, particularly the bearers, practitioners and communities of the tradition of the Krama (the traditional woven textile in Cambodia), that we celebrate its inscription into UNESCO Representative List.
The Krama is woven not only from threads but from the identities and spirits of our people. It is a symbol that resonates in the hearts of Cambodians, from every farmer to every artisan, carrying memories and traditions across generations. From birth to life end, the Krama serves as a constant loyal companion, embodying resilience, adaptability, and unity. Its practical roles are as diverse as they are meaningful. It shields farmers from the sun, provides warmth, comforts newborns and stands as an emblem of our agrarian heritage.
The Krama’s inscription on UNESCO’s Representative List is a moment of shared pride and profound meaning for Cambodia. On behalf of the Royal Government of Cambodia, I affirm our enduring commitment to the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. We pledge to sustain and support the bearers, practitioners, and communities dedicated to the Krama and uphold the rich tapestry of Cambodian heritage, ensuring that future generations will continue to inherit and cherish this cultural legacy, safeguarding the Krama with respect and reference.
Last but not least, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the gracious and beautiful host country, the Republic of Paraguay. May this session be filled with productive deliberations, advancing the true spirit of multilateral collaboration and cultural preservation.
Thank You!
សូមអរគុណ!
