Cambodia to boost domestic military production

Cambodia is ramping up investment in domestic military manufacturing to self-supply its armed forces and law enforcement.

Acting Head of State Hun Sen announced the strategic shift on June 10, during an inspection of a military equipment factory in Battambang province.

“We must have the capability to produce military equipment to supply our armed forces,” Hun Sen said. “Cambodia will no longer allow anyone to look down on our nation. We must strengthen ourselves through our own capabilities.”

Addressing international concerns over Chinese military assistance, Mr Hun Sen emphasised that the cooperation threatens no one. He said that purchasing defence equipment from foreign partners is standard global practice, framing Cambodia’s actions as a legitimate right to self-defence.

He reaffirmed that Cambodia maintains a strict non-aggression policy, pointing out that its overseas military personnel deploy exclusively for UN peacekeeping missions. Furthermore, Mr Hun Sen reiterated that Cambodia remains committed to resolving all border issues peacefully through internationally recognised laws and agreements.
