Cambodian authorities have rejected recent claims made by Thai media alleging provocations by Cambodian troops along the Trat border, calling the reports inaccurate and misleading.

On 26 March 2026, several Thai media outlets cited Capt. Thammanoon Wanna, Commander of the Special Infantry Battalion of Trat, claiming that Cambodian forces carried out repeated provocations along the Trat frontier, saying gunfire heard over the past week amounted to breaches of the December ceasefire and warning that Thai troops would respond if such incidents happen again.

However, Cambodian forces stationed in the Thma Da area of Pursat province clarified that the allegations are not true. Officials confirmed that the Cambodian military “strictly adheres to the ceasefire and other agreements established between Cambodia and Thailand and continues to implement directives from the Royal Government of Cambodia in maintaining peace, stability, and security along the border.”

Frontline Cambodian troops also reaffirmed their support for the government’s approach in resolving border issues peacefully, noting that actions are guided by international law, bilateral conventions, treaties, and agreements between the two countries. “The Cambodian military fully supports the Royal Government’s position in resolving border issues through peaceful means, based on international law and the conventions, treaties, and agreements established between the two countries,” the statement said.
