Cambodia and Korea Pledge to Continue Promoting Good Relations and Cooperation within the Framework of the Strategic Partnership
On the morning of 16 October 2025, at the Peace Palace, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUN Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, received a courtesy call from Her Excellency KIM Jina, Second Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea.
During the meeting, Her Excellency the Second Vice Minister expressed her profound gratitude to Samdech Borvor Thipadei for allowing her and her delegation to pay a courtesy call and hold a working discussion. Her Excellency commended and highly valued the progress of the good relations and cooperation between the two countries in all sectors, including the fight against transnational crime, particularly online scams. Her Excellency highlighted to Samdech Borvor Thipadei that the police forces of the two countries have collaborated extensively, but the media had not fully reported those efforts. Therefore, the working visit of Her Excellency and her delegation at this time will contribute to reducing the confusion caused by incomplete media reporting, as well as strengthening and expanding bilateral relations and cooperation, with the shared goal of jointly combating transnational crime, including online scams. Her Excellency also thanked Cambodia for always providing good cooperation to effectively combat transnational crime, including online scams. In this context, the Republic of Korea is committed to continuing deeper and better cooperation with Cambodia.
In response, Samdech Borvor Thipadei highly valued the good relations and cooperation between Cambodia and the Republic of Korea within the framework of the Strategic Partnership, which the two countries elevated during Samdech Borvor Thipadei’s official visit to the Republic of Korea in 2024. Regarding the fight against transnational crime, including online scams, the Cambodian and Korean authorities have had and continue to have good cooperation with many fruitful results, and this cooperation will continue in the future. Samdech Borvor Thipadei also highlighted that Cambodia has always taken active and successive measures to combat transnational crime, including online scams, through a self-reliant approach and in cooperation with many partners, including the Republic of Korea.
Before concluding, Samdech Borvor Thipadei and Her Excellency the Second Vice Minister discussed the future direction of bilateral cooperation, and both countries pledged to continue strengthening and expanding relations and cooperation more broadly and deeply, aimed at ensuring the safety and excellent relationship between the peoples of the two countries.
It should also be noted that Cambodia has previously arrested and repatriated 180 Korean nationals involved in online scams back to the Republic of Korea. Currently, over 60 Korean nationals involved in online scams are awaiting repatriation to the Republic of Korea in the near future.
