PM Hun Manet urges Malaysian leader to help ease Thai-Cambodian border tensions
On the evening of Thursday, September 18, 2025, Prime Minister Hun Manet held a phone discussion with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, the current ASEAN Chair, regarding the escalating situation in Prey Chan village, Ou Bei Chan commune, Ou Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province.
In recent days, tensions at the border have intensified, leading to clashes between Thai armed forces and Cambodian civilians, resulting in multiple injuries.
During the call, Prime Minister Hun Manet said, “I urged Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to intervene immediately to ease tensions between the Thai armed forces and Cambodian civilians, to maintain the status quo, and to avoid any actions that could expand the scope of the conflict while awaiting a resolution from the Joint Border Committee.”
The Cambodian leader stressed that this approach aligns with the agreements reached during the Special General Border Committee meeting on September 10, 2025, and underscores Cambodia’s commitment to dialogue and regional cooperation through ASEAN mechanisms.
