World Bank Reaffirms Its Commitment to Cambodia’s Socio-Economic Development
On the morning of 17 March 2026, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUN Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, received a courtesy call from His Excellency Carlos Felipe Jaramillo, Vice President of the World Bank for East Asia and the Pacific, and his delegation at the Peace Palace.
During the meeting, His Excellency the Vice President of the World Bank expressed his sincere appreciation to Samdech Thipadei for receiving him and his delegation, and conveyed his pleasure at meeting the Prime Minister once again. He commended Cambodia’s progress and expressed support for the Royal Government’s economic development goals aimed at transforming Cambodia into a high-income country by 2050. Furthermore, he briefed the Prime Minister on ongoing projects supported by the World Bank in Cambodia. At present, the World Bank has identified a key priority in supporting countries, including Cambodia, to create employment opportunities, with a focus on five potential sectors, namely (1). Agriculture and agro-industry; (2). Tourism; (3). Manufacturing; (4). Healthcare; and (5). Infrastructure development. In this regard, the World Bank will continue to strengthen cooperation with the private sector—the key engine of growth—to promote job creation and economic development. His Excellency the Vice President reaffirmed the World Bank’s firm commitment to continuing its support and expanding cooperation with the Royal Government of Cambodia to further advance the country’s socio-economic development in a sustainable and dynamic manner.
In response, Samdech Thipadei welcomed His Excellency the Vice President to Cambodia and expressed his pleasure at meeting him once again, while commending the excellent cooperation between the World Bank and the Royal Government. He expressed his gratitude to, and highly valued, the World Bank for its support in implementing the Pentagonal Strategy–Phase I, aimed at achieving Cambodia’s Vision 2050. Samdech Thipadei also briefed His Excellency the Vice President of the World Bank on the implementation of the Royal Government’s policies to promote several priority sectors aimed at strengthening Cambodia’s resilience, including human capital development, vocational training, education, healthcare, financial sector strengthening, investment promotion, SME development, and enhancing domestic production capacity. Furthermore, necessary measures have also been introduced to make Cambodia’s investment climate more attractive and competitive, thereby ensuring resilient socio-economic development.
Additionally, Samdech Thipadei and His Excellency Jaramillo exchanged views on key priorities, including economic growth, human resource development, and the importance of Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) in seizing opportunities and driving resilient economic growth amid global uncertainties.
