The ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) travelled to Pursat province’s Veal Veng district this morning, Juanuary 16, to observe conditions on the border. They inspected three sites: The O’Phluk Domrei area, the Hun Sen Thma Da Health Centre and the Chey Chomneah Pass, all located in Thma Da commune.
“Since the ceasefire came into effect, Cambodia has strictly adhered to it, the joint statement on the peace agreement between Cambodia and Thailand on October 26, 2025, and the joint declaration of the 3rd special meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) on December 27, 2025, as well as other related agreements,” said Maly Socheata, spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defence.
“Cambodia always provides full support to the AOT and emphasises the indispensable importance of strengthening the role and mandate of the team to verify and ensure the full and effective implementation of the ceasefire, aiming to promote transparency, accountability and mutual trust,” she added.
She reiterated Cambodia’s commitment to the peace process, to ensure rapid recovery and restore normalcy, peace, stability and security for the populations living along the borders of both countries.
