Belarusian singer and model allegedly killed after being trafficked to Myanamar via Thailand
It has been reported that a 26-year-old Belarusian singer and model was killed after she was tricked into traveling to Thailand and then trafficked to work in an online fraud ring in Myanmar.
Hong Kong newspaper The Standard reported that the woman, Vera Kravtsova, was initially tricked into going to Thailand to work as a model, but upon arriving in Bangkok on September 20th, she was taken across the border to Myanmar and forced to work at an online fraud site and compelled to pose as a female netizen on dating platforms to lure foreign men into investment scams.
After failing to comply with orders and failing to deliver on her promises, Kravtsova was then allegedly sold to an organ trafficking syndicate in early October and murdered.
Her body was later cremated, while the criminals contacted her family and demanded half a million dollars to get her remains back.
The Belarusian Foreign Ministry has also acknowledged the incident and is currently assisting the victim’s family through diplomatic channels.
According to the latest United Nations report, tens of thousands of victims of human trafficking, of various ethnicities, are being held captive in Myanmar to be forced to work in online fraud sites like modern-day slaves, while Thailand has been identified as a primary target used by criminals to lure victims to travel there before being taken to Myanmar itself.
