The Chief of the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) has announced the formation of two dedicated monitoring teams, led by Malaysian military attachés, to observe and verify the implementation of the Cambodia–Thailand ceasefire agreement starting on Wednesday.

This commitment was made during a high-level meeting on Tuesday between General Vong Pisen, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF), and Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) Chief of Defence Forces General Datuk Haji Mohd Nizam Bin Haji Jaffar, who is currently leading an official working visit to Cambodia.

ccording to RCAF, During the meeting, General Pisen welcomed the Malaysian delegation and expressed appreciation for their support in facilitating the ceasefire and assisting in restoring normalcy and peace along the border.

He formally requested Malaysia’s assistance in monitoring the situation and coordinating the verification of the ceasefire’s implementation through independent observation, with the goal of ensuring sustainable peace, accountability, and long-term stability, the RCAF’s statement added.

In response, Gen Mohd Nizam reaffirmed that the primary purpose of his visit was to ensure effective procedures and results-oriented implementation of the ceasefire agreement. He confirmed that Malaysia would establish two monitoring teams: one based in Cambodia, led by the Malaysian military attaché to Cambodia, and the other in Thailand, led by the Malaysian military attaché to Thailand. Both teams will begin their observation missions on Wednesday.
