Speaker of the Parliament of Malaysia Pledges to Further Promote Bilateral Cooperation with Cambodia
On the afternoon of 27 August 2026, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUN Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, held a working meeting with His Excellency Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. Johari bin Abdul, Speaker of the Parliament of Malaysia, at the Peace Palace.
During the meeting, His Excellency the Speaker commended Cambodia on successfully hosting the “2nd Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC-2)” and highly appreciated the progress of Malaysia–Cambodia bilateral relations and cooperation. His Excellency the Speaker emphasised that Cambodia–Malaysia relations are on the right trajectory and have yielded numerous benefits for the peoples of both countries, reaffirming that Malaysia would continue to promote bilateral cooperation to make it even stronger and more prosperous.
In response, Samdech Thipadei highly appreciated and expressed his deep satisfaction with the growth of bilateral relations and cooperation across various sectors. At the same time, Samdech Thipadei highlighted the significant increase in bilateral trade volume and underscored that both countries continue to possess considerable potential to further strengthen and expand their bilateral relations.
Samdech Thipadei and His Excellency the Speaker continued their discussions on further strengthening cooperation across various key areas, including trade and investment, healthcare, education and vocational training, tourism, energy, technology, and artificial intelligence (AI).
Furthermore, Samdech Thipadei and His Excellency the Speaker agreed on the crucial importance of cooperation and complementarity between the legislative and executive branches in jointly addressing emerging challenges effectively, thereby contributing to the maintenance of regional peace, stability, and prosperity.
Before concluding the meeting, Samdech Thipadei reiterated his profound gratitude to His Excellency Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, for facilitating the achievement of the ceasefire and the Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration of 26 October 2025. Additionally, Samdech Thipadei briefed His Excellency the Speaker on the latest developments concerning the Cambodia–Thailand border situation, emphasising Cambodia’s firm commitment and position to pursuing a peaceful resolution of border issues on the basis of international law and in accordance with the existing conventions, treaties, and agreements between the two countries.
