Regional and leading international media have covered the escalating border tensions between Cambodia and Thailand, reporting a violent clash in Banteay Meanchey province in which Thai military forces used tear gas, rubber bullets, and slingshots, injuring 30 Cambodians, including Buddhist monks.

Coverage included reports from The Associated Press (AP), Reuters, Al Jazeera, The Independent, AFP, Anadolu Agency (AA), VnExpress International, The Star (Malaysia), The South China Morning Post, The Standard, France 24 and many others.

“Thai security forces use rubber bullets and tear gas in border melee with Cambodian protesters,” read the AP headline, highlighting the confrontation between Thai forces and Cambodian villagers. Reuters’ headline read: “Thai police fire tear gas at Cambodian protesters at a disputed border village.”

“Thai security forces fired rubber bullets and tear gas at Cambodian protesters during a violent confrontation along a disputed stretch of the border on Wednesday, injuring at least 28 people and raising fears of renewed conflict between the two neighbours,” reported The Independent.

The clash, which occurred on Wednesday in the border village of Prey Chan in Banteay Meanchey province, left 30 Cambodians injured, including villagers, military personnel, and Buddhist monks.

The incident took place as local residents sought to prevent Thai troops from installing additional barbed wire in the village. Thai forces reportedly used tear gas, rubber bullets, slingshots, and shields against the people.
