Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian Senate, has called on Cambodian citizens to be careful and considered when evaluating the apparent termination of Coca-Cola’s sponsorship of Cambodia rap icon VannDa.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s social media appeal came at midnight after Cambodian citizens erupted in anger on social media and boycotted Coca-Cola because the company apparently terminated its advertising contract with rapper VannDa.

The termination has not yet been officially confirmed or denied, but Cambodian netizens reacted angrily to the apparent removal of posts and images featuring the iconic Cambodian rapper.

Coca-Cola has previously partnered with Vannda, featuring him in various campaigns and music videos, including the “Pass on the Magic” campaign.

Mr Hun called for calm, stating ‘Please, my fellow countrymen, remain calm and think carefully. First, we need to know whether the company terminated the contract with Vanda because of Vanda’s love for the nation?

Then we need to know that even though Coca-Cola is an American product, it is also a Cambodian product because it is produced in Cambodia, where Cambodian workers are the ones who work and benefit.

Taxes also come to Cambodia, which contributes to Cambodia’s economic growth.

If the company withdraws from Cambodia, Cambodia will be the loser and our enemy will be the beneficiary.

Our enemy wanted to attack our economy from the beginning, threatening to cut off electricity, cut off the internet, and stop selling oil, but we have already cut off and stopped buying so that they will not threaten us again.

I have no objection to this.

If Coca-Cola is produced in Thailand, you can stop using it.

But if this coca is produced in Cambodia, you who boycott Cambodia will lose both jobs and direct and indirect income for the people and state revenue.

Apart from the economic issue, there is another important issue: they are pushing us to be enemies with the United States, which creates diplomatic, economic, trade, and investment problems between Cambodia and the United States.

Please do not fall into the trap of our enemies.

Even Thai companies that are investing in Cambodia, we must work hard to protect them for our own benefit.

I hope that VannDa will understand that even if they stop you for whatever reason, you should persevere for the good of the nation.

VannDa represents the spirit of sacrifice for the good of the nation.’
