Cambodia Demands Immediate Halt to Thai Military Activities in Banteay Meanchey
Cambodia has protested to Thailand after Thai paratroopers and border police officers entered Banteay Meanchey province’s Ou Chrov district earlier this week, erecting barbed wire and placing tyres, describing the move as a violation of a ceasefire agreement.
According to the Ministry of National Defence, from 12 to 13 August 2025, Thai paramilitary forces and border police officers entered Chouk Chey village, O’Bei Choan commune, Ou Chrov district, in Military Region 5.
Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, Undersecretary of State and spokesperson for the Ministry, told a press conference late this afternoon that the activities violated key provisions—specifically Points 2 and 4—of an existing ceasefire agreement between the two countries.
She said that on 12 August, Thai forces inspected the area in front of the Chouk Chey checkpoint, erecting barbed wire and placing tyres in the vicinity.
“Cambodia demanded that the Thai side immediately and unconditionally cease any action that violates the ceasefire and the spirit and consensus reached at the extraordinary meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC),” she said.
Lt Gen Socheata stressed that during the GBC meeting, both sides agreed to maintain their existing troop deployments without further movement, as set when the ceasefire took effect at 24:00 local time on 28 July 2025.
“There should be no troop movement, including patrols towards the other side’s position,” she added.
